ICE-B is a software package that automatically selects the best compression settings for image and video data, based on the user’s minimum quality requirements and bandwidth.

At the heart of ICE-B is IFT’s CoDIFI (Compression Degradation Image Function Index) framework. CoDIFI predicts imagery interpretability loss due to compression using the National Imagery Interpretability Rating Scale (NIIRS/Video-NIIRS). At times data can be too large to store or transmit wirelessly in its raw format.  By using CoDIFI, ICE-B can minimize information loss which can result from data compression needed for long-term data storage and transmission.
